Ajax made up ground in the Eredivisie title race on Sunday (18th February) by beating hosts PEC Zwolle 1-0.
After PSV Eindhoven were held to a 2-2 draw the previous day, Ajax were looking for a win that would lift them to within five points of the Dutch Eredivisie leaders when they visited PEC Zwolle on Sunday.
Erik ten Hag's side were on top in the first half without breaking the deadlock. Justin Kluivert went closest to scoring in the first half when his shot was blocked by PEC goalkeeper Diederik Boer.
Ajax continued to dominate after the half-time break, but Donny van de Beek saw his shot come back off a post with goalkeeper Boer beaten before David Neres' volley from the rebound cleared the crossbar.
The visitors eventually clinched the goal their play deserved though, with Brazilian Neres setting up Klaas-Jan Huntelaar to score in the 54th minute following a one-two pass with Hakim Ziyech.
Kluivert tried his luck from long-range again just before the hour-mark, only to see his shot clatter the PEC crossbar. And Neres forced a crucial save from Boer with five minutes left to go before Huntelaar's blast from the rebound hit the leg of PEC defender Philippe Sandler.
PEC created little throughout the match, but almost stole a point at the end. Mustafa Saymak tried his luck from distance after Ajax only half cleared a corner kick, but his shot looped over the 'bar and the final whistle was then blown to seal a 1-0 win for the visitors.
