Van Persie scored first goal since rejoining Feyenoord Published on 2/9/2018

Robin van Persie scored his first goal since rejoining Feyenoord as the Eredivisie champions beat FC Groningen 3-0 at home.

After a disappointing 1-0 defeat at VVV-Venlo last time out, Feyenoord needed a swift return to winning ways. FC Groningen kept them waiting on Thursday.

Jens Toornstra broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute against tenacious opponents looking to pull away from the relegation places.

With former Oranje coach Leo Beenhakker following proceedings, the hosts doubled their lead in the 72nd minute. Steven Berghuis putting through 21-year-old Jeremiah St. Juste.

But by far the biggest cheer of the night in de Kuip was reserved for the 78th minute - and a first goal on his return to the club for Robin van Persie. That strike came moments after the 34-year-old entered the fray as a substitute.

Van Persie re-signed in January for the club he had left in 2004 to join Arsenal.
