PSV star Lozano released from hospital following head injury Published on 1/28/2019

The Mexican has been PSV’s main man this season and manager Mark van Bommel will be eager to get him back in the side soon

PSV Eindhoven have confirmed that striker Hirving Lozano has been released from hospital after suffering a head injury in Saturday’s Eredivisie win against Groningen.

The 23-year-old was involved in a clash of heads with Tim Handwerker and was unable to finish the game.

There were concerns after the match as the extent of the problem with Mark van Bommel himself stating ‘it does not look good’. Therefore Sunday’s news came as a welcomed relief for the club’s fans.

An official statement from PSV said: "Hirving Lozano has left the St. Anna Hospital and is now at home.

"His workload will be examined from day-to-day on the basis of the applicable FIFA protocols.”

That could mean the Mexican is ruled out for several weeks and might miss upcoming games against Fortuna Sittard, Utrecht and Hereenveen.

Despite being withdrawn just before half-time in the 2-1 win against Groningen, Lozano did score the decisive goals in the match, by netting a first-half brace.

The result helped increase their gap over second-place Ajax, who now trail PSV by five points following Sunday’s 6-2 defeat to Feyenoord.

Lozano is enjoying a superb season for the reigning Dutch champions and has scored 13 times in 19 league games.

His tally this campaign is just short of his overall goal haul from the 2017/18 season, when he bagged 17 Eredivisie goals.

He has also enjoyed success in the Champions League this campaign and was on target and against Tottenham and Inter.

Unsurprisingly his impressive showings have seen him be linked with some of Europe’s top clubs. However, this injury looks to have put to bed any hope of him leaving this month.

He hasn’t exactly squashed any rumours and in November claimed: “I hope that God, some day, gives me a shot at playing in the Premier League.”

“I think the Premier League is great. I think that it would be fabulous to play with any of the clubs, but I would love to play for one of the big clubs,” he added.

Lozano was also one of Mexico’s top performers at the World Cup, not least when he netted the winner in his country’s opening game against the reigning world champions Germany.
